Riyadh: Heritage tour of the Qasr al-Hukm and Old Riyadh

Your adventure begins at Al Adl Square, where authenticity meets tradition in one of the most important historical areas in the Kingdom. Then you proceed to the famous Al Zal market with its carpets, rugs and handicrafts, and detour to Al Dahou neighborhood, which reflects the spirit of old Riyadh and the details of traditional life in it, before the route leads you to Al Masmak Palace.

Al Masmak Palace Museum: Where the story began

The palace was built in the mid-19th century from mud bricks, palm trunks, and other materials. In January 1902, King Abdulaziz recaptured it in the battle that marked the beginning of the Kingdom's unification, and the spear mark on its wooden door still bears witness to that night. It was later reopened after renovations as the Al-Masmak Palace Museum, featuring exhibits and interactive experiences that tell the story of the Kingdom's founding.

Al Masmak Fortress is arguably Riyadh's most famous historical landmark, located just minutes from the Qasr al-Hukm (Justice Palace) in the heart of the Al-Deera district. The tour offers a glimpse inside the fortress, including the central courtyard, the council chamber, the well, the mosque, and the four cylindrical towers, along with the square watchtower.

The area of the Government Palace and its markets

The Qasr al-Hukm district occupies a large area in central Riyadh and includes, in addition to the palace itself, the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque, Al-Adl Square, and the surrounding traditional markets. The Qasr al-Hukm-Al-Muaiqiliya route is one of the most enjoyable walking routes in the city; it's just a few minutes' walk between the two, and in Al-Muaiqiliya, you'll find shops selling abayas, fabrics, perfumes, watches, and electronics.

As for the interior of the Rule Palace, it is an operational administrative headquarters and is not open to public visits. Therefore, we stop at it from the outside and from the direction of the square to read the details of its Najdi architecture: the mud walls, the crenellated battlements, and the suspension bridge that connects it to the mosque.
